The Discipline of Hope

60min Talk + 30min Live Q and A

We're often asked about our work ethic — but how's your hope ethic?

What's possible when we see hope as something we need to practice everyday?

During this live recording, Vivianne Castillo and Alba Villamil will share how they’re approaching hope as a discipline during times of grief and uncertainty. Together, we will think through the intentional decisions we can make in how we relate to the world around us, and, most importantly, how we can choose courage over comfort when it feels like all is lost.

We’ll touch on topics like:

  • How can we differentiate hope from toxic positivity or false optimism?
  • What’s the difference between helplessness and powerlessness — and why does knowing the difference matter?
  • How do we navigate profound grief and anger?
  • What can we do to protect our peace and boundaries?

So come join us for a candid discussion of how we might shift our understanding of hope so that we can find relief and more sustainably commit to meaningful change within ourselves and communities.

“Hope doesn’t preclude feeling sadness or frustration or anger or any other emotion that makes total sense. Hope isn’t an emotion…Hope is not optimism. Hope is a discipline… we have to practice it every single day.” - Mariame Kaba
